Diabetic Foot Care

People with diabetes are prone to foot problems that develop due to prolonged periods of high blood sugar levels. Diabetic neuropathy and peripheral vascular disease are the two main reasons for development of ulcers on the foot.
Due to impaired sensibility and decreased vascularity, diabetic foot ulcers are slow to heal and often go into chroniccity. Surgical intervention is then required.
The popular saying “ prevention is better than cure” falls truest in the case of diabetic foot ulcers.
We also routinely perform neurolysis and release of the posterior tibial neurovascular bundle in the tarsal tunnel to improve sensations as well as the blood supply to the foot.
This considerably improves healing and also prevents subsequent ulcer development.
