Bedsores are the result of prolong immobilization. Therefore
meticulous nursing care and proper equipment like water/air beds are
of utmost important in preventing them.
Bedsores can develop in as early as 48hrs of immobilization if
associated with hypotension. Once developed , they are difficult to
treat. Performing dressing are cumbersome and arduous.
In some cases local flaps can be used to close the defects. These
procedure provide significant relief to the patients as well as the
care givers as they reduce the frequency of dressings and also
eliminate a potential source of infection.
