A 27 year old, mother of two had developed a paraumbilical hernia post
pregnancy. She visited us desiring not just the hernia repair but also
an abdominoplasty.
In such cases, surgical repair always leads to the loss of umbilicus.
Though a vestigial body part, removal of umbilicus leads to an
unnatural appearance of the abdomen and has negative psychological
effects on the individual.
In this case, we treated the hernia with meshplasty, removed the
excessive hanging abdominal skin and fat along with the umbilicus and
reconstructed a new umbilicus to restore the natural appearance of the
abdomen.
